Mountain biking
A tip for bikers, sports groups and families of bikers.
Pure enjoyment all day long!
There are various tracks of different difficulty ratings available in the Silberregion Karwendel. You can tackle them alone, as part of a guided tour group or with your family: the trails end with magnificent views, happy faces and cosy guesthouses or a cool beer and a hearty well-deserved snack at a local inn.
Kreuzweg Maria Tax - St. Georgenberg –pilgrimage route - Weng
MEDIUM
328m altitude
9.2km
After passing the Laurentiuskirche church (eastern side of Stans), turn left. At the memorial stone, turn right through the village and follow the signs to ‘Kreuzweg Maria Tax’ along the asphalt road until you reach a turn-off to a forest trail. The Kreuzweg begins here. We will take the direction towards St. Georgenberg until reaching the ‘Pilgerweg St. Georgenberg’ trail. A break at the Wallfahrtseinkehr Georgenberg guesthouse is recommended. The return journey back along the pilgrimage route takes us to Weng where we travel along the forest rail (toboggan run in Winter) and back to the valley via the Stans swimming pool.
Stans – Stanserjoch - and back
DIFFICULT
1,400 altitude
16km
From the Laurentiuskirche church to the East, upwards, turn right at the 1809 memorial stone and pass through the village until you reach a beautiful woodland road (asphalt) which meanders through Durach until you reach the meadowland plateau of the Heuberg. As soon as you leave the wood, turn right (bench and gates) and continue with the forest route.
The route on the Stanserjoch requires the full attention and you are likely to miss the fast-moving views over the Inntal valley initially. However, there will be plenty of time to admire the views from the top. Firstly, you will pass by the lower meadows of the Stanser Alm pastures and then on up above the tree-line to some of the highest Alpine cabins, old and new.
You can end the route here, behind the Alm pasture, or continue on eastbound to the avalanche defences.
Stans –Tratzberg castle – via the Stanser Auen meadows – and back
EASY
155 altitude
8.6 km
From the Laurentiuskirche church to the East, upwards, turn right at the 1809 memorial stone and pass through the village until you reach a beautiful woodland road (asphalt) and on until you reach the turn-off for the Tratzberg castle. Here you follow the forest route until you reach an impressive castle. Then it’s downhill again and the route becomes flatter. On the country road, turn left and cross the little wooden bridge when you come to it. After the Tratzbergallee, in front of the underpass, along the field path through the lowland forests westwards until you reach the Stutenhofallee. Follow this route. Before the first bridge, turn left and follow the little stream until you reach a country road. Follow this road back to Stans.
This tour is particularly suitable for beginner mountain bikers and families.
Stans-Bärenrast-Stallenalm
MEDIUM
677 altitude
15.2 km
Start at the Stans swimming pool and travel towards Weng /St. Georgenberg (toboggan run in Winter). After the pilgrims’ car park on Weng and via the farm alongside the Alpine meadows to Bärenrast (where North Tyrol’s last bear was killed). Then, through the thick forests through the Stallental valley to the farmed Stallenalm meadows where you can really relax and unwind!
Into the Karwendel mountains via the Lamsenjochhütte
DIFFICULT
Stans – Weng – Bärenrast - Stallenalm – Lamsenjoch – Eng - Großer Ahornboden - Plumsjoch – Gern – Pertisau - Maurach – Wiesing – Schwaz
2320 altitude
61km
Start at the Stans swimming pool and travel towards Weng /St. Georgenberg (toboggan run in Winter). After the pilgrims’ car park on Weng, over the Alpine meadows and through the thick forest through the Stallental valley to the Stallenalm meadow. The fun begins here (see Stallenalm tour).
The route to the Lamsenjoch is steep and the ground very craggy. You need to really concentrate along this stretch. At the Lamsenjoch, we travel along single trails and cart tracks down to the Binsalm meadow and then on to the Großer Ahornoden and the Eng guesthouse. A lunch break here is recommended – the food is excellent. We then travel out of the valley down to the turn-off for Plumsjoch which leads to the Achensee lake. The climb is moderate and therefore the descent to Pertisau substantial. Good brakes and a safe cycling technique are essential. The trail then leads around the Achesee and further along a more comfortable stretch of the bike route ‘Via Barvarica Tyrolensis’. From Eben, the route runs down into the Inntal valley and via the cycle tracks back to Schwaz. Pick up a free copy of the latest mountain bike guide from the tourist office.
