Silver Mountains - Golden Autumn

In autumn Silver Region Karwendel shows its most beautiful side: Alpine excursions, rural celebrations, harvest feasts and cattle drive invite you to stay!

This “fifth“ season is ideal for enjoying excursions in the mountains.
Before winter arrives you can discover one more time our mild green alpine pastures, you can perceive the warmth of the sun rays, you can have a relaxing walking tour refreshing your tired feet in a stream, or you can have a rest on a meadow while counting the amazing variety of autumn colours ....... that’s a cure for your soul and a balm for your eyes.

Silver Region Karwendel offers you walking routes and paths in perfect conditions, as well as steep tracks, mountain bike routes for beginners and skilled bikers. On the other hand our alpine chalets and guesthouses will invite you to have a rest and to stay overnight.
The team of Tourism Information Office will be glad to organise for you your personal mountain tours (also for more than 1 day). You just need to indicate your wishes and we will create a personal program to fit your specific requests!

Autumn in Silver Region Karwendel is also a season full of cultural highlights, such as farmers’ celebrations with cattle drive and harvest feasts. But you will also find international events like the Festival of New Music (Festival der Neuen Musik) and the “Sound traces” (Klangspuren). Theatre performances and castle games at Mitterhart Castle will complete this activity program.

A special highlight which takes place every year, is the terrific natural show in “Großer Ahornboden” (Big Maple Plain) inside Alpine Park Karwendel. Innumerable maple trees - some of them are older than 500 years - cover the area around Eng, the oldest European alpine pasture. They create an inimitable scenery because their leaves show striking autumn colours. The contrast between the magnificent trees, the mild plain and the tall, cliffy rocks is just unique and creates impressions that you won’t forget.

Will you taste kaiserschmarrn or Tyrolese dumplings while enjoying the cosy atmosphere of an alpine chalet? Or will you participate in the Church Day organized in the historical alpine centre of Eng on the 4th September? – On 26th August guesthouse “Gasthaus in der Eng” celebrates its 100-year anniversary. On Saturday nostalgic bier prices invite you to enjoy a morning get-together, while during the afternoon alpine zither music is announced!
