The Achensee - Steam Rack Railway

…a whistling locomotive, steaming valves, pounding pistons, a conductor that fixes his maps with a pincer while welcoming the passengers……the Axchensee Railway is exactly like that!

It was built in 1889 and it is one of the oldest steam rack railway of the world. Starting from Jenbach it reaches and altitude higher than 138 m and leads you to Achensee. 3 original steam locomotives, that were built at the time of the founders, take you along a track with 16% inclination. This slow trip makes it possible to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The Achensee rack railway starts in Jenbach.
